Now let’s dig in…
0. The First Tweet
This was Elon’s first tweet (at least the first that he hasn’t deleted…)

Just for fun - I am going to try and find what famous people tweeted before they got super-famous.
Whom should I do next? Hit reply with the name or Twitter-handle.

1. Develop an ownership mindset
Grant Lee mentions 10 amazing points that you should check out if you are running for promotion.
In summary:
Ask for what you want - and support it with solid data.
Solve problems that is annoying your boss, your team, and your CEO.
Think beyond your responsibilities.
Don’t wait for directions - act like a leader.
2. Soft skills get you promoted… not how many programming languages you know
There’s a reason managers and executives in your company earn 2x and beyond more than you.
Because they’ve mastered the art of soft skills.
If you are job hunting - learn tech.
But, if you are looking for promotion - improve your communication skills.
This includes:
Learn to resolve conflicts
Learn to listen well
Be clear and proactive in your communication
Learn to delegate tasks
3. Really hope I don’t have to do DevOps any more - urgh!
Fun fact: tech teams that have implemented correct DevOps practices deploy code 50+ times more frequently than teams that do not have DevOps implemented.
This shows how significant impact DevOps engineers have on the company’s success.
4. Here’s how you can unlock success faster
Don’t be afraid. Remember this:
"In the world of possibilities, the door to success swings open with the key of curiosity. Dare to ask, and you shall find the treasures that await you." - Anonymous
Put it in action...
Ownership mindset
Write down a clear statement of what you want to achieve in the next 6 months
eg: I want to get promoted to Senior Software Engineer role
What 3 most important things need to happen to achieve those goals
eg: Work on high impact project
eg: Lead a team of 2 people
What 3 things are keeping your away from achieving them
eg: Manager doesn’t have confidence in me
eg: I don’t know the tech or the business domain
And work towards overcoming those shortcomings and achieving your goals.
Soft skills
This week write 3 things that make you uncomfortable to ask for - and ask them
eg: Ask manager - can I work on a [this] project and lead a team of 2 peers?
eg: Ask manager - can we have a 1:1 to talk about potential raise
eg: or… just ask your crush out on a coffee
That's all folks. If you enjoyed this week's post please do reply (it helps with deliverability). If you didn't, feel free to unsubscribe at the bottom of this email.
Cheers,
